The Issue

Dear CBSE and the Ministry of Education,

We are not writing this as politicians, education experts, or adults sitting in offices.

We are the students who will actually have to live with this decision.

We understand that languages are important. We understand the value of learning about different Indian languages and cultures. We are not against languages.

But we are asking you to understand what it feels like to be a Class IX student today.

We already have Mathematics, Science, Social Science, languages, projects, assignments, tests, practical work and preparation for the Class X Board Examinations ahead of us. Every year, the academic pressure increases. Our time does not.

For students who are already struggling with a third language, the situation can feel overwhelming. Learning a language is not something that can simply be completed by studying harder for a few weeks. It requires years of practice, vocabulary, grammar and confidence.

Many of us have studied the third language up to Class VIII. We are asking why students who have completed that stage should not be given a choice about whether they want to continue it in Classes IX and X.

We are not asking you to take languages away from students who love them. We are asking you to give students a choice.

If a student wants to continue a third language, let them continue.

If another student wants to use that time for an approved academic or skill subject, why should that choice not be available?

CBSE's own current Class X scheme lists Language III alongside other additional-subject possibilities, including an academic subject or skill subject.

The 2026–27 Class IX batch deserves to be heard before reaching the Class X Board Examination stage.

We are students, but that does not mean our concerns should be ignored.

We respectfully call upon CBSE and the Ministry of Education to:

1. Reconsider the third-language requirement for the 2026–27 Class IX batch.

2. Give students the option to continue the third language rather than making it compulsory for everyone.

3. Provide an approved academic or skill-subject alternative where appropriate.

4. Consult students, parents and teachers before finalising arrangements affecting this batch.

5. Give a clear public response explaining how the concerns of the 2026–27 batch will be addressed.

We are not asking for lower standards.

We are not asking for an easier education.

We are asking for an education system that recognises that students have limited time, different strengths and different learning needs.

Please hear us before we reach the Board Examination year, not after.

Our education affects our future. Please give us a voice in decisions that affect it.

We respectfully request CBSE and the Ministry of Education to listen to the 2026–27 Class IX batch and reconsider this requirement.
