Request Cambridge response on exam paper leaks

Request Cambridge response on exam paper leaks

The Issue

This year’s examination season has been deeply distressing for many Cambridge students across multiple subjects. Beyond the unusual structure and difficulty of several papers, there has been a growing concern surrounding public exam leaks that appeared online before examinations took place. While Cambridge responded quickly to concerns regarding Mathematics 9709, students affected in other subjects have received little to no clear communication despite repeated emails and evidence being widely circulated online.

We are calling attention not only to 9618 Computer Science and 9609 Business Studies, but to all subjects affected by credible leak allegations. Many students feel ignored, frustrated, and demoralized after weeks of receiving only vague or generic responses from Cambridge, even after providing proof and raising concerns immediately after examinations.

For some students, nearly every exam they have taken this session has later shown evidence of leaks circulating publicly online. This has severely damaged confidence in the fairness and integrity of the assessment process. Honest students who prepared genuinely now feel disadvantaged against those who may have gained unfair access to exam content beforehand.

This issue is especially concerning for:

  • 9618 Computer Science Paper 1, which many students found unusually straightforward. In such a situation, having prior access to leaked material could create an enormous advantage, allowing those involved in leaks to achieve disproportionately high marks while disadvantaging students who relied solely on their own preparation.
  • 9609 Business Studies Paper 1, a subject already known for demanding marking standards and high grade thresholds, where even a small unfair advantage can significantly impact final outcomes.
We are not asking for assumptions or panic. We are asking for transparency, reassurance, and fairness.

We call on Cambridge to:

  1. Officially confirm that investigations are being conducted across all reported leaks and affected subjects, not only selected examinations.
  2. Clarify what actions will be taken to prevent unfair inflation or distortion of grade boundaries and results caused by leaked materials and compromised papers.
  3. Provide students with clear timelines and regular updates regarding ongoing investigations and decisions.

Students deserve to feel that their hard work, preparation, and honesty still matter. The current silence and lack of transparency are increasing stress and uncertainty during an already difficult examination period.

This is not just about grades — it is about trust in the integrity of the education system and fairness for every student worldwide.

We urge Cambridge to respond openly, communicate consistently, and ensure that all affected students are treated equally and fairly.
