Request Birmingham City Council to Fly the Palestinian Flag

Request Birmingham City Council to Fly the Palestinian Flag
The Issue
Birmingham, being home to a diverse community with a significant number of citizens sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, calls upon its council - the largest in Europe - to display the Palestinian flag annually on United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People which is internationally recognised.
This request is particularly significant in light of the recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which recognises the war crimes and acts of genocide being committed in Gaza. Given the severity of these findings, it is essential to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirm support for human rights and international law.
I would like to highlight that Sheffield City Council and Rochdale City Council raised the Palestinian flag over their Town Hall on the 29th November 2024.
In addition, as the UK has previously shown solidarity with other humanitarian causes, such as flying the Ukrainian flag, it is both appropriate and necessary for Birmingham City Council to extend the same support to the Palestinian people.
Raising the Palestinian flag would send a powerful message of justice, compassion, and unity, reflecting Birmingham City Council’s commitment to equality and human rights for all communities. This action would also offer meaningful support to our local community, many of whom are directly affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
It's time for our Council to follow the precedent set by cities across the globe, that have shown such solidarity. Signing this petition will send a clear message that Birmingham supports human rights, justice, and international law. Please, join us in voicing support for this cause. Sign the petition today.
