Request AIIMS to allot INI-CET exam centres near candidates' preferred cities
The Issue
I am an INI-CET aspirant from Vizianagaram and was disheartened to find that my examination centre has been allocated in Kakinada, 220 km away from my hometown. This not only adds to my financial burden but also affects my mental and physical preparation for this crucial examination. This situation is not unique to me; many of my peers face similar challenges, with some centres allocated nearly 500 km from their hometowns.
The INI-CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) is a significant examination for postgraduate medical aspirants across India. Students like myself have dedicated countless hours preparing for this test, bearing the burden of immense study pressure and financial investment. Having an examination centre far from home not only adds unnecessary travel expenses but also impacts our ability to focus, potentially affecting our performance.
In previous years, AIIMS has been understanding of these challenges, ensuring that examination centres were allocated in reasonable proximity to candidates' preferred locations. However, the current policy seems to have deviated from this, causing undue stress and discomfort for many aspirants. Some candidates, due to extreme distances and financial constraints, are even contemplating skipping the examination, which is detrimental to their career aspirations and future plans.
Moreover, during these times of COVID-19, traveling long distances increases health risks, both for the candidates and their families. It also imposes logistical challenges and involves additional costs for accommodation and travel, which not every candidate can afford.
We urge AIIMS to adopt a more student-friendly approach by revisiting the current policy for exam centre allocation. Consider implementing a system that prioritizes candidates' preferred cities or at least cities nearby, ensuring equitable access for all students, irrespective of their geographical location or financial situation.
By making these changes, AIIMS would not only ease the logistical burden on candidates but also uphold its reputation as a compassionate and equitable institution. We believe this is an achievable goal and would greatly enhance the overall experience for INI-CET aspirants.
We appeal to the AIIMS Executive Director and the Examination Section to consider this request attentively and take necessary action promptly. Your support and understanding can make a significant difference in the lives of thousands of students. Please join us in this plea for a more considerate allocation of examination centres by signing this petition.
