Request ABR to offer Part 1 and Part 2 exams biannually
Request ABR to offer Part 1 and Part 2 exams biannually
The Issue
The American Board of Radiology (ABR) currently offers the Medical Physics Part 1 and Part 2 examinations only once a year. While these exams are a critical step toward board certification and professional advancement, their limited availability creates significant barriers for many aspiring medical physicists.
If a candidate is unable to sit for the exam due to illness, family emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances, the consequence is a full year of delay. Such postponements not only stall personal career growth but also limit the entry of qualified professionals into the medical physics workforce at a time when demand is increasing.
Offering the exams twice a year would:
- Provide candidates with greater flexibility and reduce career-limiting delays.
- Ensure that unavoidable conflicts do not derail progress for an entire year.
- Help build a more resilient and prepared cohort of medical physicists.
- Better align with the needs of a growing healthcare field that relies on timely certification of qualified experts.
We respectfully ask the ABR to reconsider its current scheduling and adopt a biannual offering for the Medical Physics Part 1 and Part 2 exams. This change would be fair, reasonable, and essential for fostering the development of future medical physicists, while ultimately strengthening patient care and advancing the field as a whole.
Please sign this petition to support a more flexible and equitable exam schedule.
