The Issue

Pflugerville ISD is facing a serious budget deficit, and school officials are considering closing several elementary and middle schools. These are decisions that will directly affect hundreds of families as well as the district as a whole. Decisions like this deserve to be made transparently, with full community input.

While community hearings were held in early March 2026, multiple meetings were held on the same night in order to prevent the school board from having a quorum (which would have been a violation of state law). Board members attended and answered questions in small groups, but those questions/answers were not on the record.

At the Regular Meeting of the school board held on Thursday, March 26th, parents spoke and asked questions, but because the school board did not include school closures on the meeting agenda, the board was not allowed to discuss the issue in a formal setting.

We are requesting that the school board hold at least one public town hall (preferably more) before the May 2026 vote on the closure plan. This meeting should include all board members, district administrators, and the representatives of the consulting firm who developed the recommendations. Parents should have a genuine opportunity to ask questions and receive answers on the record.

We understand that difficult decisions have to be made. We simply ask that those decisions be made in the open, with honest answers about what options were considered, what the data shows, and how the impact on students and families was weighed.

Please join me in signing this petition to ensure that our voices are heard.
