The Issue

My son loves to ride his scooter. It's one of his favorite activities and a wonderful way for him to get exercise, meet new friends, and build confidence. Unfortunately, we often have to travel to nearby towns so he can enjoy a decent skate park with features like ramps, rails, and jumps. It's time for White Plains to offer its residents, especially the younger ones, a space where they can express themselves and stay active safely.

The Galleria Mall in downtown White Plains is currently being redeveloped, presenting a prime opportunity to incorporate a free skate park for our community. With the mall being centrally located, it could become a hub for children, teens, and even adults who enjoy skateboarding, rollerblading, and scootering. By creating an inclusive and engaging public space, we not only enrich our community but also provide a safe environment for our youth to thrive.

Skateboarding and similar activities promote physical health, creativity, and social interactions. Furthermore, public skate parks have been shown to decrease local crime rates by engaging youth in positive activities. By constructing a skate park, we can transform an underutilized area into a vibrant community space, drawing families and visitors, boosting local businesses, and enhancing our city's reputation as a progressive and family-friendly area.

Let's seize this opportunity to better our community by ensuring the Galleria Mall redevelopment includes a free skate park. Sign this petition to show your support for a skate park in downtown White Plains, and let's give our children a place to play, grow, and inspire one another. Together, we can make this a reality.
