After much soul searching, debates, and extensive research, ASMAA management acknowledged that it was imperative that ASMAA starts a campaign informing the local population in the Algarve about the risks of 5G and IoT (Internet of Things).

Similar to when we launched the anti-oil drilling campaign 9 years ago, we are aware that not only is there massive marketing campaigns being run by the big telecom companies in Portugal, but also that our Portuguese government has failed to consult and inform the population about the health and many other risks that the roll-out of 5G brings with it.

In one hand the industry is pushing the “convenience" banner as the beginning and end of this new technology and punts it as a massive benefit for end users, but fail to inform the general public that the real winner is the industry itself. We talking about an industry that has stagnated in the past few years, and needs this technology to boost their bottom lines and take control of big data traffic management. As part of this new campaign, and in an endeavor to keep you informed we’ll be publishing opinion articles, research studies and reports as well as videos on our website on a very regular basis.

In the interim we have launched a new petition and if you agree with it, could you sign it and share it with your family, friends, work colleagues and neighbors.

To be able to give our undivided attention to this new campaign we have placed on hold many other programs that we were busy with. We did it because we believe time is short, and the risks as they are currently are totally unacceptable.

When we fought against fracking for oil and gas, we though that was the biggest risk the Algarve would ever face. We were wrong. 5G is hundreds of multitude a much bigger risk. But don’t accept our word … we invite you to research it for yourself.

If we are to be as successful as we were in raising awareness about the fracking risk, its going to cost money and require our total commitment. Its going to once again place enormous pressure on our small team. But we are willing to do it, but we need your support.

Anti 5G Campaign initial funding needs

1: Printing and distribution of flyers

2: Organizing a series of public information meetings in the Algarve (we have Portuguese and other nationalities experts already willing to share their research findings)

3: Travel and communications costs of the campaign. We have an opportunity to send one delegate as representative of Portugal to a “Strategic Conference held in the city of Kassel, Germany. The meeting takes place on February 29/March 1, and is organized by the European Citizens´ Initiative (ECI) „Attention 5G” We need to raise funds for air travel and for incidentals, as accommodation and local transport will be provided.

Our budget for these three initial actions is 2,832.67€. We need to have these funds in our account before we can proceed by no later than Friday 14th February.

In addition we still have to meet our monthly commitment for the anti fracking legal and campaign outstanding debt. Next payment is due on Monday the 10 February. We would like to pay at least 1000€ towards our outstanding bill by then. We take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you that made a contribution last month every single euro counted and was applied.

ASMAA OWN CONTRIBUTION TO THE LEGAL FUND & TO THE 5G CAMPAIGN

ASMAA will be allocating 20% of any profits made from sales in our charity shop in Lagos - opening to the public on 15 February - towards outstanding legal fees, 20% will be allocated to the 5G campaign, the balance will be used towards our other active programs, including further research that we are currently busy with. And 15% will be reserved for contingencies.
