Dear supporters, donors and friends
Still no NEWS from Loulé court regarding Galp/ENI contracts … but in the meantime you can read a very brief update of the Chronology of ASMAA legal actions. (link at end of page – PT and EN)
While drafting the chronology of just the past two years, we realised how much we have left out of it, but we were also left with sadness that the support to enable us to run legal actions is scarce and left in the hands of a very small number of people, to whom we are very, very grateful - for it has been that small number of people that cared and supported us that motivated us to carry-on.
From day one, it has been a major battle to meet the financial obligations week after week, month after month … often leaving us with no alternative than to top up payments for incurred costs out of our own pockets.
We are a very small association, without an umbrella of big civic organisations behind us to assist in covering costs. Meaning that its retired individuals that are already working pro-bono in this saga that are covering the shortfalls out of their own basic retirement funds while so many that could assist fail to do so, although they will reap the benefits of our effort along the way.
This means that as we reach the end of this phase in the fight, we are seriously reassessing the future. We know that the fight has not ended yet, far from it. We know that to succeed, many more legal actions will be required (after elections are over), but we have reached a decision.
Without a strong legal financial buffer to assist us in carrying on the fight, we may decide to not tackle any further legal actions. The fund-raising stress and the impact on the well being of us as individuals is very heavy. We have personally paid a very heavy price.
At the end of the day, it’s in your own hands how we will proceed now, and in the near future. You have to decide if it makes sense to you to support our work or not – if you do, it will continue to enable us to protect the well being of you and your family, because its quite clear that both the government and the oil companies intend to destroy our local communities, its livelihoods and its supporting environment.
Thank you to ALL THE PEOPLE who supported, and continue to support our struggle on behalf of all, that like us, wants a Portugal without gas or oil exploration be it offshore be it onshore.

Especially a very big thank you to one specific donor that donated a 1000€, as it has enabled us to cover the taxes due, but we still have a massive overdue amount of 1800€ that has been carried over from January, plus costs incurred in February and March.
