Report China's Panda Abuse to IUCN

The Issue

"Fu Bao (lucky treasure)" is a female giant panda born in South Korea in 2020 to a panda pair on loan from China. She gained huge nation-wide popularity in Korea and on YouTube. In early April 2024, Fu Bao was transferred to the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Sichuan Province under an international agreement. However, Fu Bao looks to be suffering in China. Scars on the forehead, hair loss on the neck, and even suspicion of wearing a leash have been reported in the media. It was also discovered that Fu Bao was being used for private hospitality in China. Because pandas are vulnerable to infection, they are not meant for the public to touch.

China's treatment of pandas like Fu Bao is not only heartbreaking but also violates CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Giant pandas are considered a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) must take action against these violations and ensure that China faces penalties for its actions.

Please sign this petition to urge IUCN to investigate China's panda abuse and hold them accountable for their violations of international conservation agreements!
