We, the students and gym members of Iona University, are advocating for a replacement of our current Smith machine. Many of us have found that the existing machine presents excessive, uneven resistance due to its angle, making many exercises harder than intended. The added resistance shifts the load onto muscle groups we don’t target, reducing the effectiveness of our workouts and risking injury. A new Smith machine, with smoother, balanced mechanics, will allow us to train safely, effectively, and in a way that matches proper form.
