As a resident of Southend-on-Sea, UK, I am deeply distressed by the ongoing issue at our local train station. The pigeon-proof netting installed at Southend East Train Station has become a death trap for many birds, causing unnecessary suffering and distress not only to the birds but also to caring individuals in our community. We are constantly receiving calls about another bird trapped and suffering. It is cruel, barbaric and totally unnecessary.

This situation is not only heartbreaking but also illegal under the Countryside and Wildlife Act. The netting has deteriorated over time, turning from a deterrent into a lethal hazard for these innocent creatures. This has been going on for almost a year now.

Moreover, this grim spectacle is witnessed daily by children and commuters alike - an unacceptable sight in what we proudly call 'a nation of animal lovers'.

We urge the authorities to take immediate action to replace this harmful netting with bird-friendly alternatives that comply with legal standards. No animal deserves such an agonizing fate; it's time we put an end to this cruelty.
