It is nearly impossible to maneuver an SUV or truck around the circle without having to back up at least once. A simple trip can become stressful and time-consuming due to this structure. Many drivers in our community share this sentiment, battling with the similar complications that this roundabout imposes. This is a crucial matter of efficiency and safety in our local traffic system. According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, nearly 50% of crashes at roundabouts in the US involve overcorrection or oversteering, circumstances notably challenging for larger vehicles (IIHS, 2017). Replacing the existing roundabout with a two-way stop sign will not only alleviate the stress and frustration faced by many drivers, but also significantly mitigate the risk of potential accidents. While roundabouts have their advantages, in this particular location, it is clear that a two-way stop sign would better serve the community.
