The Issue

Our Royal Oak Schools community expects a leader who is an intentional collaborator with the students, staff, and community they serve. Our current Superintendent has proven to be the opposite. The repeated implementation of swift overhauls without a full, stakeholder informed evaluation of their impacts on students and staff has become a leadership style we can no longer tolerate. The culture of feedback once fostered in our district has been quickly eroded and replaced by an evasive and intentional dismissiveness.

Teachers have come to us confidentially, en masse, for fear of retaliation. They are working in a micromanaged environment that is forcing many to retire or leave for supportive districts. Teachers are being treated without human dignity, along with their paraprofessional colleagues, which is creating unsupportive learning environments for children.

It is time for our community to act. In the name of our students and beloved educators, we are demanding our elected School Board take action to remove the current Superintendent and begin the process of hiring a new, truly responsive leader. Join us in making this demand by signing this petition which will be delivered to the Board on June 1st, 2026.

Recent, non-exhaustive, examples of the current Superintendent’s actions include:

-Staffing decisions with measurable impacts on retention, potentially leaving students and caregivers without adequate support.

-Pattern of unilateral decision making that negates the core purpose of public institutions.

-Failing to solicit teacher feedback before implementing scheduling changes without full union body member input. This change represents one of many attempts to micromanage teachers and is not developmentally appropriate for young learners.

-Constant physical location and curriculum changes to our high support needs programs: ECC, Special Ed/RAVENs, Churchill, and the DK/K enrollment processes.

-Failing to hold the ROHS TPUSA student group accountable to District codes of conduct and dismissing concerns of discrimination and exploitation.

-Outsourcing of before and after school care to Champions without proper accountability measures and oversight in place, resulting in at least one incident of serious injury and subsequent neglect.

-Ending the IB framing at the MYP and DP levels.

-A visitor sign-in process that creates substantial barriers for underserved families.

Signing this petition means that you disapprove of the Royal Oak School Board’s enabling of a Superintendent who executes organizational change in an authoritarian, top-down, unilateral, command and control style.

By signing this petition, you demand that the superintendent be replaced with someone who values a human-centered approach to change by: being willing to listen, seek understanding, and genuinely collaborate with students, parents, and the community.

In signing this petition you are standing with our teachers who are afraid to speak out publicly in fear of retaliation and who are experiencing low-morale as a direct result of the Superintendent’s inability to be an effective leader.
