Replace our Speed Camera on Priory Road

The Issue

WE WANT OUR SPEED CAMERA BACK, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT - OR WORSE!

After 4 dangerous accidents in just 5 months, Tressell Ward Councillors Glenn Haffenden and Natalie Gaimster and County Councillor Julia Hilton are writing an open letter to Chief Constable Jo Shiner, the lead for Road Policing, to request that the speed camera on Priory Road be replaced.

The speed camera in question was damaged, ironically, during a car accident a year ago. It was removed shortly after and remained absent ever since.

Many residents have expressed frustration and concern as they watch accident after accident occur on this dangerous section of road. The accidents have damaged residents' parked cars, and pose a serious risk to pedestrians and other drivers. The section of road in question is a main walking route from Ore into town and for children walking to Castledown and Baird Primary Schools.

Cars are regularly witnessed driving far above the speed limit on this straight section of road that tempts drivers to speed up right until they meet a three-way blind junction.

Councillor Hilton says, "We hope that this petition will be received with the level of urgency that it deserves. Tressell residents have been waiting far too long for this vital piece of road safety equipment to be replaced. We are calling on Sussex Police and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership to take action before someone gets seriously hurt - or even worse, killed."
