Replace MetLife Stadium turf with grass

The Issue

I've spent over 16 years as a devoted fan of the New York Giants, a team that's given me countless memories, from their astounding Super Bowl wins to silencing critics with their extraordinary plays. It’s heartbreaking to witness star players suffer serious injuries on the turf at MetLife Stadium, injuries that could be preventable if the playing surface were safer. It’s frustrating to see my favorite team lose key players to devastating ACL and Achilles tears, often because of the artificial turf.

The current turf at MetLife Stadium is a well-known cause of numerous injuries affecting both the Giants/Jets and visiting teams. Artificial playing surfaces, while easier to maintain, fail to provide the natural protection and resilience that grass fields offer. According to a study by the American Journal of Sports Medicine, there is a 16% higher rate of lower extremity injuries on synthetic turf compared to natural grass. This statistic highlights the necessity for a change that can protect our athletes' well-being and extend their playing careers.

NFL players have expressed their concerns over artificial turf, with many publicly advocating for the shift back to natural grass. They deserve a safe playing environment where they can perform at their peak without the looming fear of injury. Our athletes inspire us with their dedication and talent; they should not be at increased risk due to preventable issues.

By transitioning to grass, MetLife Stadium would not only align with many other stadiums around the league that have made this change, but it would also demonstrate a commitment to prioritizing player safety. The natural surface could lead to a reduction in injuries, ultimately allowing teams to sustain their on-field talent throughout the season.

This change is feasible. Other stadiums have successfully switched to grass fields, often funding these projects through stadium revenue and partnerships. Such a move by MetLife Stadium would be applauded by both fans and players alike, reinforcing trust and respect in the organization.

Join me in calling for MetLife Stadium and the relevant authorities to take immediate action. Let them know that the fans support this change for the sake of player health and team success. Sign this petition to make MetLife Stadium a leader in player safety and ensure our Giants/Jets can compete without the threat of unnecessary injuries. Your signature can help us bring this essential change to life.
