The Issue

Every day, animals in our community are suffering needlessly, and it breaks my heart. Our local Lake City Humane Society, which should be a beacon of hope and sanctuary for these vulnerable creatures, has sadly strayed from its core mission. The leadership, particularly the executive director, has failed to uphold the standards we expect and demand for the welfare of these animals. We, as the citizens of Lake City, FL are requesting the following:

1. The board of directors needs to remove the current executive director.

2. We would like to see 2 new board members voted onto the board BY THE COMMUNITY.

3. Board meetings should be publicly broadcast, and allow for public comment. What better way to HEAR the community you serve?

Countless reports and first-hand accounts from concerned citizens paint a devastating picture. Animal cages remain unsanitary, essential medical care is often delayed or neglected, and the overall environment is stressful and harmful to the well-being of the animals. The heart-wrenching cries and the fearful responses of these animals are cries for our help.

We have reached a point where words are no longer enough. Action is desperately needed, and the first step in rectifying this situation is a leadership change. A compassionate and effective leader can restore order, improve conditions, and bring a renewed sense of hope and safety to both the animals and the community.

A new executive director, with a vision grounded in care, transparency, and accountability, can implement policies and practices that prioritize the health and happiness of our animals. We deserve a leader who will listen to the community's outcry and take immediate action to address these critical issues.

I urge you to join me, and many others in our community, in demanding the replacement of the current executive director. Your support can lead to meaningful change, not only for the animals in the shelter but also for all of us who care deeply about them.

Sign this petition to make our voices heard and help pave the way for a better future for the Lake City Humane Society. Together, we can make a difference.
