REPLACE HASTINGS MAYOR PETER SWIDERSKI

REPLACE HASTINGS MAYOR PETER SWIDERSKI
The Issue
Since being elected Mayor of Hastings on Hudson, Mayor Peter Swiderski has pursued a personal agenda to slaughter deer and sought and obtained a Net & Bolt permit with which to do so. Giving Hastings on Hudson the distinction of being the first community in the history of New York State to receive such a permit. The Mayor achieved this by misrepresenting Hastings residents as "rolling over" on the issue, when but 38 hands were raised in favor of a cull and of those hands none were aware that the method Swiderski had chosen would be Net & Bolt, the most horrific, barbaric, inhumane method imaginable. Upon receiving this permit, Mayor Swiderski then asked that the number of deer taken be raised from 50 to 80, this while never having any scientific idea of how many deer there actually are in Hastings. The Mayor's entitled attitude and the cavalier manner in which his board has treated this issue is an abhorrent and an embarrassment to the village of Hastings. As the video's below clearly demonstrate.

Faced with overwhelming opposition, the Mayor recently announced (without so much as a single public meeting) that he is pursuing immunocontraception, yet Swiderski refuses to return his net & bolt permit to New York state. Why? For Mayor Swiderski is fully aware that it is highly unlikely that NY state D.E.C. will issue him the permit necessary for immunocontraception, rendering this an attempt to alter how he will be perceived on this issue. It is clear what Mayor Swiderski's skewed position on the issue of deer overpopulation truly is. The Mayor's own emails obtained under the FOIA act make clear, that Peter Swiderski wants to "wipe out all the deer." Hastings on Hudson can ill afford a Mayor who has shown himself to be completely void of any empathy for other sentient beings. Hastings on Hudson deserves a Mayor who is forthright, one who acts and represents the people of Hastings as a whole, not one who pursues a personal agenda.
Making matters worse Swiderski shows no interest in upholding the law. He shows more concern for the well being of 'sub rosa' hunters than that of residents of Hastings. Hastings can not continue to condone this practice. A Mayor is elected to uphold the law, not encourage breaking it, as this video displays. Swiderski's thirst to kill deer has gone too far!

Further, it is clear that Hastings is bleeding money and in desperate need of a finding a fix for how it deals with the village's waste. Mayor Swiderski was recently presented with a well thought proposal for such, one that would turn the quarry site into a much need green recycling center, putting an end to illegal dumping and the disaster that is the d.p.w.'s current location on the waterfront. However the Mayor has chosen to support a proposal of a small group of residents and their wishes that the quarry be turned into a park, ignoring what would clearly benefit the village of Hastings as a whole.
Further, Mayor Swiderski has accepted 2 million dollars from Atlantic Richfield (B.P.) for the restoration of the waterfront, then promptly elected to destroy building 51, a structure built with an artistry and design that cannot be replicated, in doing so he robbed Hastings of an opportunity to not only preserve it's history, but attract and create a most unique, arts venue on the waterfront. Building 51's compliment, Building 52 remains, but clearly is threatened under Swiderski's administration and his relationship with Atlantic Richfield. Residents such as the gentleman seen on the video below have been given good reason to challenge the Mayor's ethics during his short time in office.

What perhaps is most troubling is the manner in which the Mayor continues to obfuscate his position. A most clear example of this was on display at the recent August 24th board of trustee meeting, (video below). I respectfully ask the people of Hastings, is this who Hastings wants as Mayor? Hasting on Hudson deserves much much better, one whom at the very least, upholds the oath of office.

Don't allow Peter Swiderski to turn the "village" of Hastings into just another faceless suburban community. He must under no circumstances be elected to a second term as Mayor.
