Urgent Request for Permanent Replacement of Faulty Electricity Box – Apollo Crescent

 We, the residents of Apollo Crescent and concerned community members, would like to formally raise a serious and ongoing concern regarding the electricity distribution box servicing our area.

 The electricity box has been experiencing persistent issues for several years. These include repeated incidents of burnt wires and damaged breakers. On previous occasions, City Power technicians have implemented temporary fixes, including bypass connections. However, these solutions have not been sustainable, as the wiring continues to burn out over time.

 Multiple service requests have been logged with City Power Johannesburg. While responses have been received, the interventions have only provided short-term relief, and the faults continue to recur. Since April 2026, the situation has worsened significantly, with frequent power interruptions. In May 2026 alone, residents experienced a power outage lasting more than five days.

 Despite technicians attending to the issue and carrying out repairs, we are now experiencing a new and serious problem—low voltage supply to households. This has resulted in:

Electrical appliances not functioning efficiently

Increased risk of damage to appliances

Financial losses for residents due to faulty or damaged equipment

On 22 May 2026 at approximately 08:30, the low voltage issue caused the electricity box to trip once again, leaving the community without power. At present, there are no technicians available to attend to the matter.

The current infrastructure is no longer fit for purpose, and temporary repairs are not a viable solution. The repeated failures are also resulting in ongoing costs for the municipality due to frequent callouts and contractor involvement.

 We therefore formally request the following:

The urgent replacement of the existing electricity box servicing Apollo Crescent

Installation of a modern, reliable, and permanent solution to prevent recurring faults

A long-term infrastructure assessment to ensure stability of electricity supply in the area

We firmly believe that investing in a new electricity box will not only resolve the persistent issues but will also reduce ongoing maintenance costs for the municipality. Furthermore, it will restore stability, reduce complaints, and improve the quality of life for residents in the community.

The collective concern of the Apollo Crescent community, and we urgently appeal for your intervention to resolve this matter permanently.
