Golf Digest, one of the most popular golf publications in the world, just did a story about the recent news that the Montana High School Association (MHSA) partially lifted the spectator ban. The magazine reported that the MHSA will allow parents to watch post-season play only; and that the MHSA will be charging $10 per spectator, which the article said is "highly unusual" for high school golf.
While this news is largely welcome, and while parents don't mind paying if it means watching our kids play, some of us have wondered: why so much? It only costs $5 to get into a high school basketball or football game. And those events require refs, janitors, security, etc. None of those expenses apply to a high school golf match. Also, it is my understanding that the golf pros donate their courses to the kids. So again, why so much? Also, who gets the money? And what are they doing with it?
If anyone knows, please let me know and I'll post it as an update. In the meantime, you can see the entire Golf Digest story linked below
