Hunmanby FC is facing an uncertain future after being given notice that permission to use Hunmanby Playing Fields will come to an end on 3 January 2027.

The club was founded in March 2025 by a group of friends who simply wanted to create a football team and provide an opportunity for people to play the game they love. In just over a year, the club has grown significantly, with close to 100 players having worn the Hunmanby orange.

We now have two teams competing in Divisions 4 and 5 of the East Riding County Football League and have become an important part of the local football community.

However, on 3 September 2026, Hunmanby Parish Council informed us that our permission to use Hunmanby Playing Fields would end in four months.

The decision was made at a Parish Council meeting on 2 September. Hunmanby FC was not made aware that the future of our use of the playing fields was being discussed and was not given the opportunity to attend the meeting, respond to concerns or present our views before this decision was made.

The Council's letter states that the decision followed concerns regarding the impact on other long standing users of the site. However, the club has not been provided with specific details of these concerns.

This is particularly disappointing as we had been attempting to arrange a meeting with the Parish Council to discuss securing a longer term agreement. Our ambition was to secure funding to help improve and reinvigorate the bottom pitch for the benefit of football in Hunmanby.

Hunmanby FC has also tried to give back to the wider community. We have held two successful charity days supporting the Teenage Cancer Ward at Leeds St James Hospital, bringing people together through football while raising money for an incredibly important cause.

We believe there must be a better solution.

We are asking Hunmanby Parish Council to reconsider its decision and work with Hunmanby FC to find a fair and sustainable solution that allows our club to continue playing football in Hunmanby.

Hunmanby FC represents more than just the people who run it. It represents the players who pull on the orange shirt every weekend, the volunteers who give up their time, the supporters who follow us and the people who have helped build this club from nothing.

We have come too far to simply disappear.
