Repeal the Ban on Feeding Stray Cats in Pottsville, PA

The Issue

My love for animals and nature's beauty is what led me to petition today. Living in Pottsville, PA, we see stray cats just trying to survive amongst us every day. Yet, the city prohibits us from feeding these creatures, with the penalty being a devastating $600 fine, or even 90 days in prison. It feels inhumane to sit and watch these animals as they starve in our streets, particularly when we are capable of providing some minor relief in the form of food.

This petition is not only about repealing a seemingly cruel law. It's about shifting our focus, changing our approach to this widespread issue. Instead of punishing our citizens for showing compassion, we should encourage the city of Pottsville to implement a more ethical and progressive strategy. Take the example of the catch, neuter, and release (CNR) program – a humane and effective solution to control and sustain the stray cat population, used successfully in neighboring communities and advocated for by the Humane Society of the United States.

This alternative approach not only prevents the exponential growth of feral cat communities but also makes our streets safer for both these animals and humans, by reducing the risk of the spread of feline diseases.

Let's advocate for change, for the stray cats that cannot do it for themselves. Sign this petition to call upon our city officials to repeal the harsh ban on feeding stray cats and to consider implementing a CNR program as a more compassionate resolution to this issue.
