Repeal Maple Valley's Urban Chicken Ban

Repeal Maple Valley's Urban Chicken Ban
The Issue
In our beloved city of Maple Valley, we are facing numerous challenges that demand our attention and resources. Yet, Ordinance No. 0-25-852, which prohibits the keeping of roosters within city limits under Chapter 6 of the Maple Valley Municipal Code, draws attention away from more pressing issues, such as homelessness and crime.
Having lived in Maple Valley for years, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of community-focused efforts on the betterment of our city. With rising crime rates and increasing numbers of homeless individuals, it is imperative we focus our municipal resources towards fostering a safer and more inclusive community. The restrictions placed by this ordinance feel like an unnecessary diversion from these more significant challenges.
Roosters have long been a part of rural life, contributing to backyard farming efforts, providing natural pest control, and harmonizing with sustainable living practices. While concerns about noise and disturbances are understandable, there are practical, harmonious solutions other cities have implemented successfully that we should consider. For instance, limiting the number of roosters per household, implementing noise control measures, and specifying proper shelter requirements can balance the interests of urban living and sustainable practices.
Maple Valley has always taken pride in its ability to adapt and evolve, responding to the needs and will of its community. I urge the city council and local government to review and reconsider this ordinance. By doing so, we can redirect our efforts toward addressing critical community issues while still allowing residents the freedom to pursue sustainable living practices.
Please join me in signing this petition to call for the repeal of Ordinance No. 0-25-852. Let's urge our lawmakers to allocate our city's resources to tackle homelessness, crime, and other pressing issues instead of imposing restrictions that do not serve our community's best interests. Reclaim our right to choose sustainable lifestyles and make Maple Valley a place where modernity and tradition coexist harmoniously. Sign the petition today and make your voice heard!
