STOP DOUG FORD -Repeal Bill 112 - Save Peel Region's Future!
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the recent passing of Bill 112, also known as The Hazel McCallion Act. This legislation, introduced by the Ontario government on May 18 and passed on June 6, aims to dissolve Peel Region and make Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga standalone municipalities by January 1, 2025.
This petition is personal to me because I strongly believe that this decision was made without proper public consultation and a comprehensive review of the potential consequences. As a result, I urge you to join me in demanding the repeal of Bill 112 for the following reasons:
1. Lack of Public Consultation: The passing of this bill without seeking input from residents is undemocratic and disregards our right to have a say in matters that directly affect us. It is crucial that any significant changes to our regional governance structure are made with transparency and accountability.
2. Insufficient Review Process: Dissolving Peel Region should not be taken lightly without thoroughly examining potential impacts on services provided to residents. A comprehensive review should have been conducted to assess duplication in services and ensure taxpayers receive the best value for their money.
3. Unproven Benefits: The government has failed to provide concrete evidence or statistics supporting their claim that dissolving Peel Region will lead to improved efficiency or cost savings for taxpayers. We deserve factual information before such drastic changes are implemented.
4. Corrupt Government Practices: The Ford government has been plagued by numerous scandals and controversies during its tenure so far. Given these circumstances, it is essential that we question their motives behind introducing this legislation without proper consultation or review processes.
Peel Region plays a vital role in fostering economic growth, providing essential services like healthcare and education, maintaining infrastructure development projects, ensuring public safety measures are in place, and promoting a sense of community among its diverse population. Dissolving Peel Region without proper consideration jeopardizes the progress we have made and puts our future at risk.
Therefore, I urge all residents of Peel Regional Municipality and beyond to stand together and demand the repeal of Bill 112. Let us send a strong message to the Ontario government that our voices matter, and decisions impacting our region should be made with transparency, accountability, and in the best interest of all residents.
Together, we can protect Peel Region's future for ourselves and generations to come!
