The fight against Congestion Pricing has just begun!
The MTA's Transit Mobility Review Board, in a self-congratulatory, tone-deaf meeting, "passed" Congestion Pricing with just one dissenting vote. This is not the end, this is just the beginning! Don't let the arrogance of MTA Chair Janno Lieber fool you, or anyone. The MTA's strategy, apparently, is to wage a PR campaign to brow-beat an entire region into accepting this ridiculous driving tax, that is simply a cash grab to cover for the dysfunction and incompetence of the MTA. The MTA and the special interests, like the for-hire vehicle apps (that benefits enormously from CP) cannot talk this into existence- they have a legal fight!
New Yorkers Against Congestion Pricing Tax is leading the charge with an active lawsuit in New York's Southern District Federal Court with 49 Plaintiffs! We believe that Congestion Pricing should be stopped in its tracks because there was never an appropriate Environmental Impact Study that considered negatively impacted "Environmental Justice Zones", like the Lower East Side, which will see an INCREASE in pollution and negative economic impacts. CP is regressive tax that will increase the cost of living for all New Yorkers, and the last thing that the New York City needs as we are still recovering from the economic damage inflicted by the global pandemic.
We need your help! We have raised over $55k, but lawsuits are not cheap. It is estimated that our lawsuit could cost well into six figures, but that's a small price to pay to save New Yorkers BILLIONS in the long-term! Here is the schedule of proceedings:
Motions to Dismiss are due on April 1, 2024
Responses are due on April 15, 2024
Replies are due on April 22, 2024
Oral arguments are May 17
Together, we can stop this! Please donate to the cause to see our lawsuit through to fruition.
Thank you on behalf of the NYACPT and everyone who lives in our region!
