I know. It was only me with the Sign of Shame on the corner of 75th and Wornall. Consider it a trial run for another planned outing later this week.
Most importantly, though, Waldo residents driving by were 100% ecstatic and on-board with the effort. Many drivers signed our petition today and we've just eclipsed 2,000 signatures! Incredible.
As many know, KCMO politicians generally respond, react, and grease only the loudest squeaky wheels. As individual constituents (or Stakeholders), we are summarily ignored. Anyone who has tried reporting potholes or failed Waldo roads knows this. Banding together and sharing one vision to repave Waldo arterial roads ensures a focused strategy and creates the most, “squeak.”
Our strategy, or plan of action, directly engages City leaders to demand Waldo road repair timelines. No more 311 Action Center firewall. No more public meeting misdirection. No more canned excuses via the City Media Relation department.
Instead, I’ve committed to personally delivering our shared demand to the Mayor, 6th District councilmembers, City Manager, Public Works Director, and Water Services Director. City leaders control an approximate $2B/yr budget. They allocate that money, not citizens. City leaders also plan which streets are resurfaced; citizens do not. That’s the rub. With one of the highest sales tax rates in the nation, Waldo residents provide ample revenue and it’s given to the squeakiest wheel. As we've noticed, that ain’t us!
That’s why I continue to be squeaky. Thank YOU for being squeaky, too! We will get this done.
