The Issue

I am writing to formally report a persistent and severe safety hazard regarding the elevators in our building. The elevators are consistently mid leveling, frequently stopping significantly below the floor surface. This forces residents to step up or climb out, creating an immediate tripping and fall hazard that disproportionately risks the safety of elderly residents, individuals with disabilities, and families with young children. Furthermore, recurring breakdowns continue to leave residents trapped inside on a regular basis.

As safe and functional elevators are a fundamental necessity for habitable housing, I urge NYCHA to take the following immediate actions:

-Inspect and Repair: Conduct an urgent, comprehensive inspection and repair of the elevator leveling systems and mechanical components to eliminate the risk of entrapment and misleveling.

- Provide Tenant Communication: Establish clear, regular communications with building residents regarding the timeline and status of these necessary repairs.

Please treat this matter with the urgency it requires to ensure the safety and well-being of all tenants. I request a prompt response outlining the steps NYCHA is taking to resolve these dangerous conditions.

If you believe NYCHA residents deserve safe, working elevators every single day, please sign this petition. Add your name so we can demand urgent repairs, real accountability, and dignity for the people living in this building and others like it across Brooklyn.
