The Issue

Make the Roads Around Cambridge Road - Bangalore Safe and Motorable

How many more accidents, falls and near-misses will it take before someone fixes these roads?

If you live in or around Cambridge Road, chances are you have experienced it yourself.

You slow down, try to spot the next pothole, move to one side to avoid a broken stretch, suddenly swerve when another pothole appears — and hope that the vehicle behind you has seen it too.

This has become the daily reality for residents and road users of Udani Layout.

For years, the two main routes connecting our neighbourhood to the rest of Bengaluru have been allowed to deteriorate:

Cambridge Road towards Cambridge Layout and ESI
The road towards MG Road via the 515 Army Canteen
These are not obscure lanes. They are important everyday routes used by residents, office-goers, school-goers, delivery personnel, emergency vehicles and thousands of motorists and two-wheeler riders.

And yet, we have been living with roads that are simply not fit for safe everyday use.

This is not about demanding luxury infrastructure.

We are asking for a basic, fundamental public service: safe roads.

We have raised this issue repeatedly.

Residents have made multiple representations to the concerned authorities and our elected representative, including requests to have these roads repaired.

We have received assurances that the matter would be addressed.

But assurances without action do not make our roads safer.

Years have passed, while residents continue to face the same problem.

We are asking for action — not another assurance.

Through this petition, we request the concerned authorities to:

Immediately inspect both road stretches and document their present condition.
Clearly identify the authority responsible for maintaining each road.
Undertake immediate pothole repairs and safety measures on the most dangerous sections.
Prepare and implement a permanent road restoration/resurfacing plan, rather than continuing with inadequate temporary patchwork.
Publish a clear timeline for completion of the required work.
Provide residents with a definitive written response outlining the proposed action, responsible department and expected completion date.
Review reported accidents, falls and near-misses on these stretches and incorporate road-safety considerations into the repair plan.
Road safety is a shared responsibility.

Citizens are expected to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and drive responsibly — and rightly so.

But responsible road users also have a right to expect safe and reasonably maintained roads.

A rider can follow every traffic rule and still lose control because of a pothole or damaged road surface.

Traffic enforcement can address unsafe behaviour. Good infrastructure can prevent accidents in the first place. Bengaluru needs both.

We are not asking for special treatment.

We are asking for something fundamental:

Safe roads.
Accountable authorities.
A clear plan.
A definite timeline.
And action.

Udani Layout should not have to wait indefinitely for basic road infrastructure.

We therefore call upon the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Bengaluru Traffic Police, our elected representatives and the concerned civic and engineering authorities to take this matter up on priority and provide residents with a clear and time-bound roadmap for restoring these roads.
