Repair Asturia Dog Park
The Issue
UPDATE 2/24/23 There are $57,500 worth of proposals that are on the agenda for the 2/28/23 CDD meeting. Please help to make repairing the dog park a priority. Reach out to you friends and neighbors in the community and ask them to sign this petition and attend the meeting, details below. Thank you for your support.
The Asturia dog park is in dire need of improvement. The grass is either dead or non-existent in several areas, particularly in front of the benches. The sprinklers, if there are any, do not seem to be working. When the dogs play there, they come home filthy, covered in dirt and sand. The current condition of the park can cause dogs to have issues with their eyes and ears. We would like the sod replaced or an alternate surface installed. Ideally, we would like the dog park expanded as we think that the root cause of the problem is that the intensity of use is too high for the existing small area.
The bare patches in the dog park are expanding and If nothing is done soon, there be very little grass left in the park. Spring is a good time to install new sod. We don't want the dog park to become unusable.
Our landscaping company, Redtree, was supposed to submit two proposals to fix the dog park at our upcoming CDD Board Meeting on Feb 28th at 6PM in the Asturia Clubhouse, 14575 Promenade Parkway. The signers of this petition are asking our board members to vote YES to rehabilitate the dog park NOW! We would also like the board to consider an expansion of the dog park.
2/21/23 UPDATE
No proposals are on the published agenda for the meeting regarding the dog park. There is a proposal from Redtree for the 2/28 meeting to re-work the landscaping at the front entrance for $18,750.00.
2/22/23 UPDATE
I met with Tish Dobson, the district manager for the CDD, this morning. She is going to bring the dog park repair issue up to the board at the 2/28 meeting, and will bring up the issue of expanding the dog park. Hopefully the board will consider both of these issues a priority. Please attend the meeting to show the board that this issue has a lot of support in the community.
We discussed dogs digging in the park. Tish said she will have the broom in the dog park replaced with something better so that dog parents have a tool to fill in the holes if their pet digs.
