Update: Official confirmation from the Superintendent

The North Kingstown School Department has now formally confirmed everything this petition raised. In a memo submitted to the School Committee dated September 22, 2026, Superintendent Kenneth Duva confirmed that three of the six NKHS tennis courts are officially out of service, and the remaining three require repair and are not suitable for safe competitive play without it.

The memo puts the full replacement cost at $400,000 to $500,000 and confirms that both the girls' and boys' tennis teams are now displaced from their home courts. The girls' team has been playing all home matches this fall at Lawn Middle School in Jamestown, and the boys' team is expected to face the same arrangement in spring 2027.

The Superintendent has formally recommended that the School Committee identify and approve funding to replace the courts. The next real decision point is the Budget and Finance Advisory Committee meeting on October 6, 2026, where funding sources will be discussed before any recommendation returns to the full School Committee for approval.

The girls' team has an away match Tuesday night, so many tennis families won't be able to attend in person, but if you're able to make it, it's worth showing up to Tuesday's School Committee meeting (7:00 PM, Central Admin Building, 100 Romano Vineyard Way) for Citizen's Comments. Public turnout, even briefly, helps keep this a visible priority heading into the October 6 funding discussion.
