Repair and Reopen the Mill Road section of the Huatoki Walkway NOW

Repair and Reopen the Mill Road section of the Huatoki Walkway NOW
The issue
I am passionate about ensuring my community has safe and accessible spaces for walking and cycling.
The Huatoki Walkway in New Plymouth has long been a cherished route for locals and visitors seeking a serene and safe environment away from the bustling traffic. Unfortunately, following minor storm damage in 2025, a vital section between Mill Road and Glenpark Ave was closed by the NPDC with a very permanent looking barrier fencing with no effort made to repair the minor slip.
If this was a vehicular route no doubt it would have been repaired immediately, such as the slip was on Mill Road, which occurred at the same time and was repaired 2 weeks later.
The closure of this section of the Huatoki has affected many of us residents who rely on it for daily exercise - walking, running and cycling, and for providing the only safe off road commuting option to the city in this part of town.
As cyclists we are now forced to divert through the hectic roundabout at the intersection of Mill Road and Dawson Street, having to cross 2 way traffic on busy Frankly Road before rejoining the path several 100 metres up that road.
New Plymouth deserves safer pathways and full access to the Huatoki Walkway is a vital part of this network.
Sign this petition NOW urging the council to remove the fencing, repair the path damage and reopen the Huatoki Walkway immediately.

Closed at Mill Road because....

Of this 'slip'... which looks the same as when I notified the council in July 2025

This Tree is firmly in place below the " slip''

Closed at Frankly road
