The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) reduce, and often eliminate, Social Security benefits for retirees who worked in both the private and public sector.

We are asking that Congress provide some relief to retirees whose Social Security benefits have been impacted by WEP and/or GPO in the form of a monthly rebate for the cost of Medicare Part B, currently $135.50 per month.

Why did I start this petition? I am a retired public school teacher. My husband died in 2001. He paid into Social Security throughout his career. Because I worked in one of the states that applies the Government Pension Offset to Social Security retirement benefits, my Social Security survivors benefits have been reduced to zero.

This petition will be sent to Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA), who is the Chair of the Committee on Ways and Means, and Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX), who is Ranking Member of the Committee on Ways and Means.
