The Issue

Our Welsh-medium Year 7 class (7SV) at Ysgol Llanfyllin is currently subjected to three consecutive hour-long English lessons. This schedule is mentally exhausting, as many of us struggle to maintain concentration for such a prolonged period without a change of subject. It's vital that this issue is addressed promptly to ensure that our lessons support our well-being and cognitive development.

Moreover, an hour of music every fortnight is unjustly withheld from us simply because we chose to immerse ourselves in the Welsh language. Music, an integral part of our Welsh heritage, plays a crucial role in fostering mental health, cognitive abilities, and relaxation. It is disheartening to see the English-medium classes receiving two hours of music a fortnight, whilst our access to this enriching subject is limited.

Music is not merely a subject; it's a source of inspiration, creativity, and emotional support. It is unfair to deprive us of this opportunity solely based on our linguistic choice.  Ysgol Llanfyllin, with its rich cultural history, should champion equal educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their medium of instruction.

We propose the restructuring of the timetable to eliminate triple lessons of English and to reinstate the missing music hour every fortnight for our class. By adopting a balanced timetable, pupils can more effectively engage with their subjects, leading to improved academic performance and overall happiness.

Join us in advocating for a fair educational experience that respects our cultural identity and needs. Sign this petition to call for the administrative changes needed at Ysgol Llanfyllin to ensure that every student has access to a holistic and balanced education.
