On Dec 19th, we met Al Krupski and staff to discuss reopening the Pine Barrens Trail Center. Each of us, representatives from the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists (C.L.I.M.B.), Long Island Sierra Club, and Quality Parks, shared out stories. Underpinning our discussion about the Existing License Agreement was the affirmation of value to recreational trails, and the following key points: 1) making the Pine Barrens Trail Center available for meetings 2) making the Pine Barrens Trail Center open to the public (including some facility and trail improvements) 3) enabling the Pine Barrens Trail Center to be the place where all trails come together 4)providing paid staff and funding for a professional Pine Barrens Trail Center We concluded the meeting with some followup tasks on continued outreach to Suffolk County Legislature, Suffolk County Parks, the Long Island Greenbelt Conference.
