Last Friday, at the late hour of 4:30pm, our community received shocking news via a school newsletter. The main car park used by parents and carers for dropping off and picking up our children was to be closed during morning drop offs and effective immediately (from the 7th September) . We feel that this decision has been made without proper consultation or consideration of, not only, the repercussions it would have on the health and safety of the children but also surrounding areas, at already a very busy time of morning.

Reopening the car park is crucial to ensure the health and safety of our children, reduce traffic congestion, and maintain community peace. This area has served its purpose well in the past, efficiently handling the peak traffic times of school drop-offs and pick-ups. Its closure is unnecessary and ill-considered, considering a viable solution already exists.

We urge the business with control over this space to reconsider their position. The car park was developed with community use in mind—its gates should not be closed to us, especially when children's safety is being compromised. Schools depend on strong community ties and support, not division and conflict.

By signing this petition, you can help us appeal to the decision-makers and remind them of the car park’s essential role in our day-to-day lives. We aim to reopen the car park for its intended purpose (what has been agreed with the council during schooling hours), thereby supporting a safe and functional environment for our children and easing the strain on our community. We would like to also note that we support the processes in place to ensure that the law can be enforced to any users of the car park that may not abide by the rules of the Highway Code.
