As a design student at The New School, I find myself in a predicament. I cannot work on my projects at home as all the industrial sewing machines are located within the school premises. With finals approaching, we need the school to be open 24/7 in order for us to complete our projects.

The buildings of The New School were open round-the-clock before COVID-19 struck. This was an essential feature that allowed students from various disciplines to access resources and workspaces according to their unique schedules and project needs. Now, as we adapt and learn to live with COVID-19, it is time for us to return back to pre-pandemic systems.

Having the university buildings open 24/7 is not just about convenience; it's about providing equal opportunities for all students regardless of their living situations or personal circumstances. It's about fostering an environment conducive for learning, creativity and productivity.

We urge The New School administration to consider this request seriously and take immediate action towards reopening all university buildings 24/7, especially the University Center which - as a fashion design student - houses crucial resources like industrial sewing machines that are only available at school for students like me.
