Reopen the B4204 at Rochford: our Rural Communities Deserve Answers, Action and Support
Reopen the B4204 at Rochford: our Rural Communities Deserve Answers, Action and Support
The Issue
🚧 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH — ACTION NEEDED ON THE B4204 AT ROCHFORD! 🚧
The B4204 at Rochford has now been closed since February 2026 following a serious landslip, leaving residents facing months of disruption, lengthy diversions and uncertainty about when this vital road will reopen.
For residents of Hanley Broadheath, Hanley William, Hanley Childe and the surrounding villages, this is far more than an inconvenience.
Everyday journeys to Tenbury Wells for GP appointments, prescriptions, shopping and other essential services have become longer, more difficult and more expensive. The prolonged road closure has also affected our ministry team, making it more difficult to reach churches and serve communities throughout the Teme Valley, this disruption impacts not only everyday travel but also the vital pastoral care, support and community services provided to local people.
Residents are having to travel further, use narrow rural lanes and spend more money on fuel at a time when household budgets are already under considerable pressure. Local businesses and other road users are also feeling the effects.
We fully recognise that a serious landslip presents significant engineering challenges and that safety must come first. However, residents deserve clear information about what is happening, what work remains to be done and when they can realistically expect this road to reopen.
Where is the clear timetable? Where are the regular updates? And what support is available for the residents bearing the cost of this prolonged closure?
I believe it is time for Worcestershire County Council, as the highways authority, to provide some firm answers.
I am calling for:
✅ A clear, realistic timetable for the necessary works and reopening of the B4204.
✅ Regular and meaningful updates for residents.
✅ A review of the safety and suitability of the diversion routes and the additional traffic using our rural lanes.
✅ An assessment of the impact on residents, local businesses and access to essential services.
✅ A formal response on whether compensation, financial assistance or other practical support can be offered to affected residents.
Our rural communities matter, and their concerns must not be overlooked.
I am launching a petition calling on Worcestershire County Council to take action, provide answers and demonstrate its commitment to the communities affected.
📢 If you live in the affected area, regularly use the B4204, or believe our rural communities deserve better communication and support, please add your voice.
Please share this post so that we can reach as many affected residents as possible.
It is time for a clear plan, proper communication and answers for the people who have been living with this disruption for far too long.
