The Issue

The recent closure of Sydney Road has led to significant disruption and frustration for the Bath community. As a resident, I’ve witnessed firsthand the chaos and congestion that this decision by Bath’s Lib Dem council has brought about. The modifications at the junction of Sydney Road and Beckford Road—especially the decision to impose a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN)—have stirred unrest among locals, already reeling from past unpopular policies.

What has escalated the problem is the damage to the tunnel on the Kennet and Avon Canal due to the construction work undertaken as part of these changes. This has caused an immediate halt to all works and has left us in a quandary. As a result, part of the road remains closed, and this partial closure is causing substantial delays for everyone entering and leaving Bath via the A36.

Imagine the daily struggle of additional commuting hours, the increased pollution from idling vehicles, and the sheer inconvenience faced by emergency services that need to navigate these heavily congested roads.

Reopening Sydney Road is not just a matter of convenience but a necessity. It is the most reasonable, safe, and practical solution to tackle this escalating traffic issue effectively. By reopening the road, we can alleviate traffic congestion and restore some semblance of normality to our city, ensuring that residents, businesses, and visitors can move through the area unhindered.

Please join me in urging the Bath council to reconsider their decision. Reopen Sydney Road now, and help us bring about a change that addresses the pressing concerns of Bath’s residents. Your support is essential in making our voices heard. Sign this petition today to demand action and deliver a sustainable traffic solution that benefits us all.
