Reopen Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Track & Club Now!
The Issue
As a passionate member of the Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Club, I am deeply saddened to see our beloved track and club remain closed for 655 days and counting. This petition aims to urge the Blaby District Council to reconsider their decision and reopen our community facility as soon as possible.
Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Track & Club has always been more than just a place for us; it is a vital hub that brings together children, families, and individuals from all walks of life. Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, this facility has played an essential role in fostering a sense of belonging, promoting physical activity, and nurturing talent within our community.
One cannot overlook the significant impact our club has had on both local and national levels. In the short time since its establishment, we have successfully hosted numerous prestigious events such as National competitions and The British Championships in 2021. These events attracted participation from Olympic Gold & Silver medalists themselves! Our track has proven to be an invaluable asset not only for our members but also for showcasing talent on a grand stage.
It is disheartening that despite these achievements and contributions to the community, Blaby District Council continues to keep our doors shut without providing any justified reason or alternative solutions. This prolonged closure denies countless individuals access to a safe space where they can engage in healthy activities while building friendships that last a lifetime.
Due to gassing issues on the site due to the track and surrounding area being on old landfill, this is why we was closed originally on November 1st 2021.
On Wednesday 16th August 2023 the council reopened to the public the footpaths and field adjacent to the BMX track meaning dog walkers can once again enjoy the area again, but our track remains fenced off like Fort Knox.
So it’s deemed safe enough now to walk around the track but not actually ride it?The leisure centre has been back in operation since October 2022 as well…..
We firmly believe that reopening Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Track & Club will not only benefit current members but also attract new participants who seek an outlet for their energy and passion. The positive impact on physical health, mental well-being, social integration, and skill development cannot be overstated.
Therefore, we kindly request the Blaby District Council to reconsider their decision promptly. We implore them to recognize the immense value this facility holds within our community and take the necessary steps to reopen Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Track & Club without further delay.
Let us come together as a united community, sign this petition, and make our voices heard. Together, we can ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the joy, camaraderie, and personal growth that Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Track & Club has provided for years.
Thank you for your support in reopening our beloved facility.
