The Issue

Petition to the New York City Police Department, Mayor of New York City, and the Office of the District Attorney

Freddy was not “just a bodega cat.” He was a living, feeling animal who brought comfort, companionship, and joy to countless people. His life mattered.

We are calling on the New York City Police Department to immediately reopen the investigation into Freddy’s death and conduct a thorough, transparent review of all available evidence. We also ask the Mayor of New York City to ensure that cases involving animal cruelty receive the attention and resources they deserve, and that no investigation is closed before every reasonable avenue has been exhausted.

Animal cruelty is not a minor offense. It is a serious crime that affects the safety and well-being of our communities. When allegations of cruelty are not fully investigated, it undermines public trust and sends the message that the lives of animals do not matter.

By signing this petition, we ask that:

The NYPD reopen Freddy’s case and conduct a complete and impartial investigation.
All available evidence be reviewed and any additional witnesses interviewed.
If the evidence supports criminal charges, those responsible be held fully accountable under New York law.
The Mayor of New York City work with law enforcement to strengthen the investigation and prosecution of animal cruelty cases throughout the city.
Freddy’s story has touched thousands of people because compassion should never be optional. Every animal deserves protection, and every credible allegation of cruelty deserves a complete investigation.

Please sign this petition and share it widely. Together, we can demand transparency, accountability, and justice for Freddy.

Justice for Freddy. Justice for every animal whose voice cannot be heard.
