The new Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre has officially opened. The first prisoners were transferred there last week. It will in time become Queensland's largest prison. The state-of-the-art facility has a capacity of 1,500 prisoners and will create 800 roles including custodial correction officers, psychologists, social workers, health workers and administration staff.

State member for Lockyer, Jim McDonald recalled "I was a police officer for many years and I remember taking prisoners years ago to the Boggo Road jail down at Woolloongabba, and this is a long way from anything like that."
