DECEMBER UPDATE:

Thank you everyone for your support this year. The petition is still running - now over 5,000 signature and growing - please share.

The end of 2024 marks two years since Boggo Road Gaol was "temporarily" closed and there is still no reopening date. The Stockwell development is now underway. They are in the process of works to repair and conserve the Detention Unit and tower. For this work we are grateful.

This year Boggo Road Gaol was given worldwide attention and recognition on Netflix with Boy Swallows Universe.

Through this incredible international publicity the Gaol sat closed and inaccessible. As  the dedicated team at Tourism and Events Queensland championed our state, encouraging people to come visit the locations connected to the show, one of the star locations - Boggo - was left closed as the Gaol forecourt was literally being used as parking lot for construction workers. You could not make this situation up - without  any doubt one of the greatest stuff-ups in Australian tourism history.

There is no polite way to frame this - Queensland completely botched the opportunity. We were the laughing stock of Australia's historic prison network. Free publicity that was completely lost.

It is beyond shocking that there is no plan or vision.  After building the site up to a 7 day a week attraction for Brisbane, creating jobs and winning Best of Queensland and Tripadvisor awards we were told we had to close due to an imminent development. Then nothing happened.

The Olympics are on the horizon. Cruize ships want to lock in their plans to bring visitors to Brisbane in 2027/28. Our staff at the Gaol remain jobless and in a state of limbo. The people of Queensland remain "locked" out of a public heritage asset. This ridiculous situation has to end.

The election of a new state government may bring that change; we have meetings with key players organised for early in the new year. We will keep you all informed.

We still need your support while the Gaol is closed -  over these holidays please consider booking our other tours & experiences at historicaustralia.com.au / crimetoursaustralia.com.au / ghosttoursaustralia.com.au
