The Issue

Anthony White Mountain was a vibrant young Native American man who had an entire life ahead of him. He had a family who loved him, friends who cherished him, and a future that held promise. Tragically, his life was cut short under suspicious circumstances in Bismarck, North Dakota. Six years ago, Anthony was found hanging with bruises, burn marks and punctures wounds on his body and face. March 31st, 2020 he was dead, and to the shock and heartbreak of his loved ones, his death was hastily ruled a suicide. This conclusion was reached without a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death, and without justice for Anthony, his story remains untold. He was only 17 years old.

As someone who knew and loved Anthony, I cannot remain silent while his spirit cries out for justice. It is unthinkable that in today's world, such grave failings in the justice system are allowed to stand unchallenged. Anthony did not receive the fair and unbiased investigation that is his—and every person's—right. His case was closed too soon, with crucial questions unanswered and critical evidence unexamined.

The alarming lack of a proper investigation, especially given the context of racial disparities in the justice system, demands that we act now. The individuals who were around at the time of his death were not adequately questioned or held accountable. We owe it to Anthony, his family, and all who stand for justice and equality to demand a reopening of his case. We need a fresh, thorough investigation that will explore all leads and ensure that every piece of evidence is examined.

We urge the Bismarck Police Department and the District Attorney's office to reopen Anthony White Mountain's case. We need them to conduct a comprehensive and unbiased examination so that justice can prevail. It is time for Anthony's voice to be heard and for his family to find peace.

Please sign this petition to demand justice for Anthony White Mountain. Together, we can urge the authorities to correct this grave injustice and honor the memory of a young man who was taken from this world far too soon. Your support is vital to show that we will not stand by silently. Join us in our fight for truth and accountability.
