Monday morning, there was a thick cloud of smoke over the University of Houston, main campus. It is believed this is a cloud of chemically polluted smoke from the ITC Chemical Plant fire. Many students complained claiming difficulty to breathe, due to the chemicals in the air. Throughout the week, school districts around the area have shut down, citing concerns for the safety of their students, teachers and faculty. 

As of this writing, March 22 2019, ITC has confirmed their fire has been reignited, and the contamination wall being breached. Chemical pollution is being released yet again into the air, and according to local news outlets, it is said the wind is blowing in the Galena Park direction, which is the same direction the University of Houston campus is in as well.

For the safety of students, professors, and faculty we urge the University of Houston to shut down it's campus until a government agency claims the air is safe. Students, professors and faculty should not be subjected to this contaminated air.
