The Issue

This court has long served as a vital recreational space for our community, offering a safe and healthy environment for children, teens, and adults to engage in physical activity, build friendships, and strengthen community ties. Unfortunately, the court has fallen into disrepair, with issues including cracked pavement, broken hoops, worn-out paint, lack of shade and seating making it increasingly unsafe and uninviting for public use.

I grew up in Veterans Memorial and this court has been the same since I was 8 years old. At one point the backboards on one of the courts were changed but nothing else really. I want to show our city officials that this basketball court is worth saving and it’s worth investing in. It has been a staple for the athletic community in Woonsocket for many years and it can once again be what it once was.

With a modest investment in resurfacing the court, replacing the hoops, repainting lines, and potentially adding seating or lighting, Dunn Park could once again become a vibrant hub for community recreation. Renovating this court would demonstrate the city’s commitment to youth development, public health, and neighborhood revitalization.

We believe this improvement aligns with Woonsocket’s goals of promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering community pride. A well-maintained basketball court would offer year-round benefits and positive opportunities for residents of all ages, especially local youth who deserve a safe and welcoming space to play and grow.
