This petition is born out of personal experience and a shared struggle among many tenants. I, along with numerous others in my apartment complex, have been served with what's known as "renovictions" - evictions under the guise of renovations. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, the prospect of paying higher rents post-renovation is not only daunting but also unjust.

Our apartments are more than just rented spaces; they are our homes. It's scandalous to see them taken away from us for renovations that primarily serve to inflate rents. The Landlord/Tenant Act stipulates that we have the right of first refusal to return to our renovated apartments under the same lease and rent amount as before. However, this right is often concealed from tenants by landlords seeking higher profits.

It's time we shed light on this issue and protect tenant rights against such predatory practices. We demand transparency regarding renovation plans and enforcement of tenant rights including their right to return at the same rent post-renovation.
