Renovate our local Plumstead basketball court.

Renovate our local Plumstead basketball court.
The Issue
Across London, a positive change is taking root. A new wave of modern, community-focused basketball courts is popping up, transforming neglected spaces into vibrant hubs for sport and connection. These projects prove that change is possible and that our city is finally recognising the power of the game.
Now, it's our turn. Our court at Winns Common shouldn't be left behind; it should be part of this movement. We have the same passion, the same community spirit, and the same right to a quality facility. By coming together now, we can ensure our court joins this new legacy of London basketball—becoming a place that inspires pride, promotes health, and unites our neighbourhood for years to come.
For years, the basketball court at Winns Common has been more than just asphalt and hoops—it’s a vital heartbeat of our community. It’s where friendships are forged on the pavement, where young people learn the meaning of teamwork, and where families gather to enjoy the spirit of the game. For many of us, it’s a second home.
As one of the only dedicated basketball courts in our area, it serves an essential purpose. It’s a free, accessible sanctuary for the youth and a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect through sport.
However, with this renewed love comes a pressing challenge: the court itself can no longer keep up with the community's needs. While the spirit is strong, the facility is failing.
The hoops are set at inconsistent heights, making serious practice impossible and frustrating our aspiring players. The playing surface is uneven and cracked, creating invisible tripping hazards. Without any court lines, the quality of play suffers, and the unstable, shaking rims fill every game with a sense of unease.
This isn’t just about fixing a recreational space—it’s about investing in our community’s future. A fully renovated court would:
· Safely accommodate the growing number of enthusiasts.
· Provide a professional-grade space for our youth to hone their skills and discipline.
· Solidify its role as a central, positive hub for health and social connection for years to come.
We have the passion and the players. What we lack is a facility that matches our community's dedication. Let’s transform this well-loved space into a court we can all be proud of—a safe, modern, and inspiring environment that truly meets the demand.
We call upon the local government and community-minded sponsors to partner with us. Let’s fund a complete renovation and build a legacy together.
Please sign this petition to show your support. Let’s give our community the first-class basketball facility it deserves.
What we plan to renovate:
• Repave the court
• Repaint the lines
• Add new rims and backboards
• Add floodlights
Please share this with as many people for us to have the power in numbers to make change happen.
