Renovate Lynn, Massachusetts' Image: Rename to Ocean Park, Massachusetts

The Issue

Anyone who lives in Lynn, Massachusetts, knows the old saying all too well: "Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin. You never come out the way you went in." This chant has unfortunately become an echo of our history— a history fraught with adversity that we continually strive to overcome. We are renowned as a city overcome by poverty, often shamed for the struggles of our residents. Yet, we are proud of our city, most especially of our magnificent shores and public parks, which are unmatched in any city north of Boston.

For this reason, we believe it is time for a serious rebranding— one that truly reflects our city's potential and its natural beauty. We propose renaming the city of Lynn to Ocean Park, Massachusetts, a snapshot of the tranquility and escape our beaches and parks offer.

Lynn's unique coastal geography with its wonderful beaches draws thousands of visitors annually. The city boasts a 2.5-mile beach and more than 49 parks, and the Lynn Woods Reservation marking its prominence in open spaces and coastal ecosystem north of Boston (Source: US Census Bureau). Hence, the new name would encapsulate the city's natural landscapes and its commitment to the environment.

Thus, we're seeking to change Lynn's global reputation from negative connotations to an emphasised appreciation of its environmental beauty. In doing so, we can kickstart the regeneration process and transform Lynn into a place aspiring to development, growth, and prosperity, alongside maintaining its natural beauty.

For everyone who is proud of our beaches, parks, and the sense of community that pervades our city: sign this petition. Let's not allow the dark shadows of the past to overshadow our potential. Let's uplift our city and embrace a new era of recognition as Ocean Park, Massachusetts.
