Faber Skatepark which is now a home to much of the community here on Staten Island is currently falling into disrepair. Opening In June 2015 it is now almost 10 years old with much of it’s maintenance being left to the locals who frequent there that care about it’s safety & usage.

There has been many occasions due to the clogged drains it leaves the park unusable for days to weeks at a time and although it eventually gets cleaned up no preventative measures are taken to ensure the problem doesn’t persist. Alongside that issue some of the concrete has been breaking apart throughout the park with the patchwork coming out of the pockets of it’s attendees.

It’s unfair that such a beautiful park that has now been a destination for many of the events held here on Staten Island is not receiving the attention it deserves from the governing bodies. 

We are looking to propose a “Renovation Plan” that would not only maintenance many of our concerns, but also add lights that illuminate the skatepark portion of Faber. Other lights were added recently to make the recreation center & pathway more accessible at night until the park closes at 10PM and we feel that the same courtesy should be extended to the riders who can only attend after work hours. This would alleviate a lot of safety concerns that the community has voiced in the past from the park being really dark at night despite the new light fixtures.

Lastly we also wish to potentially add a new obstacle that could help the park feel fresh to regulars and newcomers alike. This would entice more people to not only come check out the new updates but appreciate all the other amazing amenities Faber Park itself has to offer. This park is a great service to our community and we would love to see it last for generations to come!!
