The Koopalanda Playground Reserve has been a treasure for local children and families for over forty years. The creation of the reserve was a requirement (i.e. the open space contribution) of the subdivision. Created by the determination of residents with support of one Municipal Councillor (Lorna Bennett) in 1984, the playground has been a unique feature for local residents and families. For many, it was a key reason for them deciding to settle in the area.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council (MPSC) closed the playground without consulting or advising  local residents on the last day of the School term last year.

MPSC is in the process of assessing the status of the Koopalanda Playground Reserve. Local residents have not been consulted about the plans the MPSC might have or the criteria for the assessment process.

The local residents who have initiated this petition see the Koopalanda Playground Reserve as an invaluable community asset. For generations this picturesque site has seen the joy and development of countless children. There is no other playground within safe walking or riding distance for them.

We the undersigned urge the MPSC to:

1.      prioritise the renewal of the Koopalanda Playground Reserve in recognition of its long standing value and importance to the quality of life enjoyed by the families who reside in and visit Red Hill South

2.      consult with local residents on its plans for the Koopalanda Playground Reserve as a matter of priority.
